Hi! I’m Johnsie Mays

… a former burnout victim turned Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) Practitioner. I used to be the epitome of a Type A go-getter: 4AM gym sessions, crushing my sales career, and striving to be a super dad and husband. I pushed through exhaustion with caffeine and willpower, trying every health fad without lasting results.

Then I discovered FDN, a holistic approach that changed everything. Instead of just treating symptoms, FDN identifies the root causes of health issues through functional lab testing. We look at hormone balance, immune function, digestion, detoxification, and energy production – the pillars of health.

Using the D.R.E.S.S. protocol (Diet, Rest, Exercise, Stress Reduction, and Supplementation), I create personalized health-building programs. This isn't about quick fixes; it's about sustainable, long-term wellness. I've been where you are.

If you're running on empty, let's connect. Schedule a discovery call and together, we'll uncover your unique healing opportunities and help you reclaim your energy, clarity, and zest for life. It's time to go from burnout to boundless.

The Roadmap To The Boundless You

First up, we’ll have a little chat to
uncover your health woes, dreams, and see if we vibe! Typically, we’ll do this over the wonders of Zoom!

Next, we run a series of functional labs that will help uncover hidden stressors and provide answers to the health questions you’ve had for so long. Most of these labs are done at home!

Once we get ALL the results back, I give you my assesment and develop a 3-6 month plan personalized to you. We'll focus on implementing the optimal diet for your needs, a balanced exercise regimen, dive into practical ways to manage stress and optimize your sleep and digestion so your body can heal naturally

We then dive into a 3 or 6 month 1:1 coaching program. I'll educate, support and guide you along the way with zoom meetings and coaching calls. Here you learn to develop all the skils and habits to conquer burnout, stress, and anxiety.

The Reviews

I have lost 25 pounds, feeling great, but the best news is my A1C. Borderline pre-diabetic is 5.7...mine was 8.5. I was a full blown diabetic and didn't know it! We decided to hit it hard and give me 90 days to see if I could make some improvements before going on meds/insulin. I got my results back today and my A1C went from 8.5 to 5.6!!!

I have been told my neck and face look thinner and I lost 6lbs. Still have yet to have an upset stomach. I was nervous cutting back on my workouts but I can see a change in the inflammation, which is what I was hoping for.

My testosterone went from a 400 to 700! The itchy rashes on my hands are gone. I am way more focused at the office and the gym! The labs brought back so much info that I was afraid there was too much to fix. But we did it!

I’m feeling pretty Darn Good! After a decade of so many migraines a month, I only had one last month and none this month. It’s Amazing!

Functional Nutrition FAQs

  • Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioners, FDNPs for short, are part health detectives, part health coaches and guides. They have been trained and certified to interpret data from functional lab tests to identify the root causes of chronic, stress-related disorders and correct them with changes in diet, lifestyle, and supplementation. FDNPs work closely with clients over a period of months, offering support, encouragement, and resources as clients implement and adjust to their personalized protocols.

  • Metabolic Chaos® is a term used in FDN to describe a cascading disruption of multiple metabolic processes within our bodies. This disorder can be caused by a variety of factors, such as poor diet, environmental toxins, stress, and genetic disorders. Metabolic Chaos usually involves several issues, which might include poor sleep, irregular periods in women, joint pain, fatigue, weight gain, skin problems, brain fog, and digestive issues, among others.

  • Functional lab tests are a type of diagnostic tool used to identify the underlying causes of health issues. These tests look at biological markers in the body to determine how its systems are functioning as a whole. Markers for six bodily systems are usually investigated: hormones, immune system, digestion, detoxification, energy production, and the nervous system. FDN practitioners analyze the data returned by these tests to find stressors that could be contributing to poor health and to guide the creation of personalized health plans. text goes here

  • Knowledge is a healthy thing! Here are a few reasons to begin working with a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner:

    • Know your metabolic type.
Find out precisely what kinds of foods provide the optimal source of energy for your particular body.

    • Learn what to avoid.
Discover what food, beverages, habits, and environmental factors are triggering unwanted reactions and symptoms.

    • Find out what’s missing.
Discover what nutrients are lacking in your current diet and which dietary changes and supplements will correct any deficiencies.

    • Break unhelpful patterns.
Knowing which stressors impede optimal health is the first step in changing your habits. You’ll also learn how to create new thought and behavior patterns to help you manifest a healthier life.

    • Choose more mindfully.
Cultivate top-of-mind awareness of your nutritional and lifestyle choices and the impact they have on your health and how you feel.

  • Using a combination of functional laboratory testing, in-depth medical history, self-assessments, and symptom reporting, FDNPs determine the current state of your body’s key systems. To address any imbalances, they recommend specific changes to diet and lifestyle and coach clients through the process of returning their bodies to the healthiest natural state possible.ion

  • Epigenetics is the study of how environment and behavior affect the way our genes express themselves without changing the genetic code itself. Every cell in our bodies contains the same DNA instructions, but based on internal conditions they can express themselves differently to become, for example, a nerve cell, a muscle cell, a thyroid cell, and so on. Outside factors can also influence gene expression. Research shows that modern diets and lifestyles can encourage genes to express themselves in negative ways that lead to chronic dysfunction and disease. By changing certain conditions, such as our surroundings, food sources, activity levels, and stress, we can potentially “switch on” the genes associated with better health.

  • Schedule a free 30-minute discovery call with Johnsie to find out if you could benefit from a functional nutrition program. FDN is a comprehensive, holistic look under the hood to find out how each system in the body is functioning. You will be asked to make impactful changes to your diet and lifestyle, and this may not be the right path for everyone. This call is a great way to learn if FDN and Johnsie are a good fit for you!

  • Yes!

All programs can be completed virtually from anywhere. Consulting sessions are conducted by Zoom video call, and tests are delivered to your home and returned to the lab via mail. We also have a secure web portal (practicebetter.io) that offers online scheduling, intake forms, food journals, and more that you can access through a desktop computer or mobile app.

  • The short answer is no. Functional Diagnostic Nutrition is an opt-in model of self- care. As we are not physicians and we do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe, we do not take insurance. With that said, some of these labs can be covered under your HSA.

  • Rebalancing the body takes time. Likely you've been feeling unwell for months or years, and it will take at least a few months for us to begin to turn your health around together. I make no guarantees, but if you are willing to put in the time and effort I ask of you, positive changes in energy, mood, sleep, weight, libido, and digestion can occur in as little as a few weeks.
